A native of Two Egg, Dale Cox grew up immersed in the history and
folklore of Northwest Florida, Southwest Georgia and Southeast
Alabama. A descendant of the noted American pioneer Daniel Boone, he
lists among his ancestors many early settlers of both Jackson County,
Florida and Decatur County, Georgia. He is also descended from the
noted Native American leader Efau Emathla (William Brown), a chief of
the Euchee branch of the Creek Nation.

His unique cultural heritage played a critical role in the formation of his
life-long love of history and his passion for preservation. He began
studying and writing about local history at an early age, producing a
series of articles for the
Jackson County Floridan at the age of twelve.

In addition to studies in archaeology and anthropology, Cox has written
or contributed to five books on Northwest Florida, including
Two Egg,
Florida
. His 2007 book, The Battle of Marianna, Florida, has drawn
praise from historians across the country as a ground-breaking history
of a small Civil War battle. A companion volume,
The Battle of Natural
Bridge, Florida
, is also now available.

He served as an editor of noted Florida historian E.W. Carswell's
monumental book,
Washington - Florida's Twelfth County, and has
penned numerous newspaper, magazine and internet articles on topics
of historical interest. Other books scheduled for release in the near
future include:
The Battle of Massard Prairie, Arkansas and Fort Scott,
Fort Hughes and Camp Recovery: Three 19th Century Military Sites in
Decatur County, Georgia
.

Noted for his abilities as a journalist and manager, Cox has worked for a
number of America's largest media companies. Most recently he served
as a newsroom manager for the broadcast division of The New York
Times Company. He also once worked as managing editor of
The Piney
Woods Gazette
, the only newspaper ever published in Two Egg. The
son of Clinton and Pearl Cox of Jackson County, Florida, he is the father
of two grown sons, William and Alan Cox. He divides his time between
the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas and the piney woods of Two Egg,
Florida.
